I started working on this novel in 2012, rewriting and reworking the story several times, influenced by readings and films that reproduce the scene of a nostalgic New York underground. In my room, David Bowie, Joy Division and Sonic Youth played every day, on headphones, while I fell, slowly, into the story of that universe of metropolitan and ferocious melancholy, so different from my present.
I thought of New York as the city where anything is possible, where you can make some mess, break some rules or learn about some mystery and maybe get caught in the act, get scolded and be able to tell your friends. This is how I started playing prohibition even when everything could be allowed, feeling a little bit like a child, a little bit Hollywood actress and a little bit outlaw.
