Graphic Design Trends 2022 - the new trends
When it comes to trends , we are mostly dealing with “fashions” and are therefore phenomena that do not in the least affect the foundations of graphic design. Some trends of this year had already been anticipated in 2021, while others have opened new scenarios to an increasingly rapidly evolving reality, creating new stimuli and helping to better understand graphic design in the coming years and anticipating its developments.
With this perspective let’s go and see the most interesting graphical trends for the year that has just begun.
2D/3D MASHUP
Example from: Xochitl Castaño h6 >
This new partnership between 2D and 3D brings the best of both worlds by evolving from hyper-realistic imagery to highly creative mashups.
3D CHARACTERS
Perfectly in sync with all the other 2022 graphic design trends, 3D characters invade apps, websites and animations like there’s no tomorrow.
This path is currently followed by big brands because the 3D language usually requires more investments . We need specific software, competent computers and trained staff.
RISO PRINT STYLE
The decades-old art of resography makes a return both physically and digitally as aesthetics. Artists and graphic designers find clever ways to digitally recreate the Riso Print effect and bring vibrant colors and flawless imperfections to their artwork.
In case you don’t know it , the technique is similar to digital screen printing.
You scan an image and first create a paper stencil that wraps the ink drum so that the printer can create a stamp of each individual color and put the puzzle together to get a slightly imperfect vibrant image. This or particular makes Rice art stimulating and adventurous because even if you plan your layers to perfection, you will still get something unique and unexpected.
This technique has become a soon a tool for artists and designers to create beautiful works abstract art, posters and advertisements from which it is impossible to look away, precisely because of these unique vivid colors that other printers cannot produce and the slight imperfections, such as smudging of ink, inconsistent colors, unpredictable alignment problems and rough textures.
MAXIMALISM
Maximalism , a trend originally identified for 2021, has been confirmed to be the new reality.
Companies and brands that want to stand out , and have the budget to do so, try to do visually crazy things, exaggerated, impactful or over the top, aiming for exaggeration as a way to emerge from the crowd.
PSYCHEDELIC DESIGN
This trend originally appeared in the 1960s and has since become immortal.
And this year, visual acid journeys of jaw-dropping color are back to reflect the chaos and mirror the carefree spirit of the 1960s in every field of graphic design.
HOLOGRAPHIC DESIGN
3D FLUID SHAPES BY Wannathis
Now the beautiful diffraction of light has also risen to web design, logos and animation.
I The holographic design looks very high-tech and futuristic with its blend of shiny multidimensional pastel lights; its great peculiarity is that it gives the impression of moving even in static images.
"DECONSTRUCTED" TYPOGRAPHY
The example that can come to my mind first is this from Squid Game, the logo is built on the potential of a variable font, the ability of the character therefore lies in transforming itself within a defined space which is at the heart of communication.
A single letter may be upside down, larger or smaller, with a different or completely missing character. It could be a couple of letters in a small text, following a different pattern than the rest of the letters to reveal a different message. It’s the perfect way to emphasize and draw attention to something specific.
And yes, I really think the Squid Game logo is the perfect example.
Conclusions
We have seen how the Graphic Design Trends of 2022 break down what holds us back, inspire strength to open minds to create mesmerizing designs with bright colors, movement, imperfection and futurism.
Next year, therefore, will certainly be something to look forward to.
As always, I ask you if you seem to have found all the trends that you think are the trends to keep an eye on this year. If I’ve overlooked any that seem really interesting to you, let me know below in the comments. 😉
